Maverick deputy Gobzems denied exit from Saeima committee

Take note – story published 2 years ago

On Thursday, October 21, a majority of Saeima deputies rejected a draft decision on the withdrawal of the MP Aldis Gobzems from the Saeima Committee for Sustainable Development.

Gobzems had said that he did not want to continue his work in the committee anymore, because it is, according to him, “nonsensical” and “pointlessly spent time.” Gobzems has just returned to debates in the Saeima after being excluded from six meetings after refusing to comply with the regulation to display a Covid-19 certificate or test result.

The majority rejected the draft decision: 32 members voted in favor, 47 against, while one abstained.

According to the information available on the Saeima website, 16 parliamentarians are active in the Commission for Sustainable Development.
