Saeima members have proposed to reallocate €223 million for various needs in Latvia’s 2018 budget, but the government might only grant requests worth €2 million in total, Finance Minister Dana Reizniece-Ozola (Greens/Farmers) told journalists November 9.

The Cabinet of Ministers today is expected to go through 57 budget proposals, totaling €223m.

In most cases, lawmakers propose to reallocate money for these needs from contingency funds.

The finance minister said that the government would not approve any of the proposals that would increase Latvia’s budget expenses.

The ministers, however, plan to approve the Education and Science Ministry’s proposal to increase funding to Latvia’s boarding schools.

By and large, ministries have not submitted proposals that would increase budget expenses in 2018.
