Saeima consents to criminal prosecution of MP Grevcova

Take note – story published 1 year ago

On Thursday, December 12, the Saeima decided to agree to the criminal prosecution of 14th Saeima deputy Glorija Grevcova (For Stability!).

80 Members voted in favor of the future trial of the criminal case, while 9 parliamentarians voted against it.

With the consent of the Saeima to further adjudicate criminal proceedings, Grevcova will still be able to continue to fulfill the duties of Saeima deputy. At the same time, the Rules of Order of Saeima determine - if a conviction of a deputy in the final instance of a criminal offense would take effect, the deputy shall be deemed to be excluded from the Saeima.

The Saeima Mandate, Ethics and Submissions Committee previously supported the decision regarding consent to the future adjudication of the criminal case.

In the past, the parliamentary lawyer stated that Grevcov's actions did not lead to any victims, and therefore, in his opinion, the continuation of the prosecution should not be accepted.

As reported earlier by LSM, before the 14th Saeima elections, Grevcova claimed that she worked at woodworking company SIA "Dolo" as an adviser in her official filing to the Central Election Commission (CVK). However, according to the company itself, Grevcova was only employed in a junior capacity at the company several years ago for little more than a year, and certainly not as an adviser. A similar issue also arose in the 'education' category of the official report.

Grevcova's lawyer previously argued that there were no victims of Grevcova's actions, and therefore, in his opinion, the continuation of the prosecution should not be accepted.
