67 Members voted for handing over Kaimiņš to prosecution, 19 voted against, while 11 members did not vote.
In October, the Prosecutor's Office asked the Saeima for consent to prosecute Member Artuss Kaimiņš for violation of accounting rules.
At the Saeima debate, Kaimiņš expressed the view that this is "clearly a politically motivated indictment", as it has been changed several times. In his opinion, the prosecution was ordered by Aivars Lembergs and the Union of Greens and Farmers represented by him.
Kaimiņš said: “Well, it's very strange that I've been charged with a multitude of charges. From the beginning, I was a person charged with serious crimes, [I had] illegally funded a party. Then they realized that there was nothing to be found about it, (..) and went on with an accounting check in my personal company, Suņu būda. Nothing worked out there. This case, on the other hand, is based on the counterfeiting of accounting statistics in another company. It is like: we have the man, let's match up an article. This kind of article is to be seen in administrative proceedings, the court does not work on it. Those who ever had a business know that accounting errors can occur in any company.”
Kaimiņš also said that the prosecutor has submitted “very selective evidence” to the Saeima.
Kaimiņš was especially defended by the New Conservative Party faction, whereas all members but one from the party he founded (and was later kicked out of), KPV LV, voted for his prosecution.
In June 2018, the Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau initially detained the Saeima deputy for the alleged illegal financing of the party KPV LV, along with Atis Zakatistovs, member of the Board of Governors of KPV LV, and businessman Viesturs Tamužs. All were later released.
The case was later divided because KNAB asked to start criminal proceedings against Zakatistovs and Tamužs.
