Saeima deputy Aldis Blumbergs has died at the age of 52, it was confirmed by a Saeima announcement July 18.

Blumbergs had recently suffered serious health problems. He was elected to the 13th Saeima from the "KPV LV" party list in 2018, but after that party imploded in 2020 he lent his support to the "New Unity" faction in the Latvian parliament, without formally joining the party.

Aldis Blumbergs was born on October 16, 1969 and graduated from the Riga Industrial Polytechnic with a specialization in furniture production, but later studied law at the University of Latvia and obtained a master's degree in European and international law and qualified as a lawyer, in which profession he practiced for many years.

Blumbergs was a member of the chairman of the Saeima Defense, Internal Affairs and Corruption Prevention Commission. The MP also worked in the Public Expenditure and Audit Commission and was a member of the Latvian delegation of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.

Our condolences to his colleagues, friends and family.
