Saeima MPs could be subject to compulsory vaccination

Take note – story published 2 years ago

An absolute majority of members of Saeima Defense, Internal Affairs and Corruption Prevention Committee conceptually supported compulsory vaccination for Saeima deputies on August 26.

Six Members voted for the proposal, two voted against. Opposition member Māris Možvillo commented that the inclusion of “compulsory vaccination” in any law infringes human rights and exacerbates the “general mood in the country”.

It is planned that members who have had and overcome Covid-19 will also be able to work onsite in the Parliament but negative tests would not be valid although at the beginning of the week the Saeima Faction Council decided that parliamentarians would also be able to work with negative Covid-19 tests.

At the same time, the members of the Committee have not yet decided what to do about those who have not had Covid-19 or been vaccinated.
