Speakers of Baltic parliaments meet in Latvia

The speakers of all three Baltic national parliaments are attending a meeting in Latvia July 8 and 9, where issues relating to the economy, security and environment of the region will be discussed. The surge in illegal immigration from Belarus to Lithuania will also be spoken about.

Speaker of the Saeima of Latvia Ināra Mūrniece will host Speaker of the Seimas of Lithuania Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen and President of the Riigikogu of Estonia Jüri Ratas in Rīga. In the evening, the discussions will continue in Jūrmala.

On Friday, the Speakers will meet with Director of the NATO Strategic Communications Centre of Excellence Jānis Sārts, and visit Rundāle Palace.  

It is the first face-to-face meeting of the Speakers of the Baltic parliaments since the outbreak of the COVID-19 crisis.
