A prosecution has been initiated under Article 79.4 (1) and Article 233 (2) of the Criminal Law, the VDD said in a release September 11.
"The suspect was arrested by VDD on 2 May this year. During a search at the person's place of residence, more than 400 grams of the explosive TNT, gun ammunition, as well as a package with sulfuric acid were seized. In addition, materials glorifying terrorist activities and containing calls to carry out such activities were found at the person's place of residence. The person had also accumulated detailed instructions for carrying out terrorist attacks, including making explosive devices," said the VDD.
The VDD investigation has established that the person supports the ideology preached by the terrorist group Daesh or Islamic State.
The Service found that the person was heavily involved in correspondence with pro-extremism and pro-terrorism groups on the Telegram communication platform, where he shared ideological material from terrorist organizations, as well as various instructions for carrying out terrorist acts.
The suspect, whose name has not been released, in line with standard legal practise in Latvia, has been remanded in custody as a precautionary measure.
