On the evening of 18 October, a case of a Postcard shop assistant refusing to serve customers in Latvian and making hateful remarks about the Latvian people was widely reported on social networking sites.
According to the customer's post, the clerk spoke in Russian, behaved aggressively, and referred to the Postcard shop as a "Russian shop".
In response to this information, the VDD immediately launched an investigation into the circumstances of the incident. The VDD identified the shop assistant and on October 19 conducted a preventive interview with her, warning that acts aimed at inciting national hatred or hatred could lead to criminal prosecution.
The VDD officials also held discussions with the management of both the shop in question and the shopping center where the shop is located. The management of the shop and the shopping center have confirmed that they would take internal measures to prevent similar incidents, the VDD stated.
