Latvian immigration official suspected of forgery on behalf of Russian citizen

The Internal Security Bureau (IDB) has sent a criminal case to the prosecutor's office for the initiation of criminal prosecution against an official of the Citizenship and Migration Affairs Board (PMLP) for forgery.

In the course of its investigation, the IDB – which is the agency that polices the police as well as other departments under the control of the Interior Ministry – found out that the PMLP official, while performing official duties, updated information about marriages abroad in the Register of Natural Persons, knowingly accepting and using fake documents submitted by a citizen of the Russian Federation.

A non-custodial security measure was applied to the unnamed PMLP official and now criminal prosecution has been initiated under the first part of Article 327 of the Criminal Law which concerns the offense of knowlingly using forged documents.

The Office of Internal Security reminds that no person can be considered guilty of committing a criminal offense until proven guilty in accordance with the Criminal Procedure Law.
