Prosecutor pushes for prison sentence in EUR 2 million bribery case

The prosecutor has proposed a prison sentence of three years for the businessman, Chairman of the board of the housing manager Rīgas namu apsaimniekotājs, Igors Trubko, accused of offering a bribe of EUR 2.1 million to the head of the Riga City Council's “For/Progressives” faction, Mārtiņš Kossovičs, LETA reported March 29.

Along with the prison sentence, the prosecutor asks for a ban of commercial activity for four years for Trubko, and fine of 200 minimum salaries, or EUR 124,000, for Rīgas namu apsaimniekotājs.

The Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau (KNAB) previously stated that according to the evidence obtained, the bribe was offered in order for the company represented by Trubko to win a concession contest and to take over part of the houses managed by the municipal housing management company “Rīgas namu pārvaldnieks” (RNP).
