The municipality's cameras recorded the young man driving the stolen Citroen C5 across the Vienības Bridge. This allowed the police to react quickly and intercept the young man with the stolen car in Daugavpils, in the direction of Lielā Street from Komunālā Street to Sēlijas Street. The law enforcement officers ordered the vehicle to stop, but the young man did not comply with the police officers' demands and tried to flee.

At one point, in a place where the maximum speed limit is 90 km/h, the young man, who had neither reached legal age nor obtained a driving license, was driving at 162 km/h. The police apprehended the offender and found that a young man born in 2006 was also in the car.

Both cars were returned to the garage.

Criminal proceedings for theft by entry into premises and theft of a vehicle have been initiated.

Administrative offense proceedings have also been initiated in relation to the absence of a driver's license.
