76 drunk drivers caught over Easter in Latvia

Half of the drunk drivers caught during the Easter holiday were under the influence of alcohol of more than 1.5 promille (0.15% blood alcohol concentration), said Artūrs Smilga, representative of the State Police, on Latvian Television April 19.

Between Friday and Monday, 28 people were injured in road accidents. “The number of victims has decreased compared to the previous year, there are no deaths,” Smilga noted and recalled that more than 30 people were injured in 2021 and two people died.

Over the weekend, 76 drivers were caught under the influence of alcohol, four more under the influence of drugs. About half of the drivers were under the influence of alcohol of more than 1.5 promille.

Nearly 1,200 law-enforcement officers were involved in public order and security, including road traffic control.
