Anti-graft squad arrests businessman Martinsons

Take note – story published 5 years ago

Officers from the Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau (KNAB) have arrested high-profile businessman Māris Martinsons, according to unconfirmed information obtained by LTV.

It is not immediately apparent whether the detention of Martinsons is related to a previously filed case, or a new one. Martinsons' name had been linked with central bank president Imārs Rimšēvičs in one particularly high-profile case that is ongoing, but according to LTV, the latest arrest is understood not to be connected with that investigation.

Martinsons has not responded to LTV calls seeking confirmation and his telephone is turned off.

In separate news, KNAB officers were also reported to have raided the offices of the Riga municipal transport department, though few further details have emerged.
