Border Guards have caught 22 persons with invalid Covid-19 test results

So far 22 persons who have shown false or invalid Covid-19 tests have been caught by border guards, State Border Guard said April 12.

A total of EUR 9,970 has been imposed for these violations so far.

On Saturday, April 10, border guards at the border inspection post of Riga airport identified one Latvian citizen travelling from Germany who showed a counterfeit Covid-19 test to border guards. The person was fined €670.

Meanwhile, officials of the State Border Guard stopped a car on the highway A7, in the municipality of Bauska, on Saturday, in which five Ukrainian citizens were present. The travelers showed Covid-19 tests which do not conform to the samples at the disposal of the State Border Guard. Administrative proceedings have been initiated against these persons.

Also last Tuesday and Thursday, April 6 and 8, officials from the State Border Guard stopped two cars on highway A3, Valka, and caught an Estonian resident and two Ukrainian residents with fraudulent Covid-19 tests.

In total, 22 persons have been identified by border guards who have shown false or such Covid-19 tests that do not conform to the samples at the disposal of the State Border Guard.

Since the beginning of the year, more than 123,000 persons have been checked in the vicinity of internal borders and nearly three and a half thousand administrative infringement proceedings have been issued for entry offences, with a total amount of fines of more than EUR 186,000.

Minister of Interior Sandis Ģirģens told the Latvian Television program “Today's Question” that services under the authority of the Ministry were able to inspect 90% of those entering Latvia by road.
