Cartel found among public transport companies in Latvia

The Competition Council (KP) identified an illegal agreement in the activities of three public transport service providers and applied fines of almost EUR 2 million in total, KP said on January 17.

KP, on the basis of the evidence obtained during the investigation, established the prohibition provided for in Section 11, Paragraph one of the Competition Law. The Article in question shall prevent the direct or indirect fixing of prices or tariffs in any way or the rules for their formation, as well as the exchange of information relating to prices or marketing rules.

The agreement has been found in the distribution of the market for regional bus routes.

The infringement was found in the activities of three public transport service providers. In total, fines of almost €2 million have been imposed.

The Competition Council promises to provide more information on Wednesday, January 18.
