Minister of the Interior Sandis Ģirģens (KPV LV party) has instructed Chief of the State Police Ints Ķuzis to explain whether and how the police intend to responded to allegations circulating in the media about possible corrupt practices and other violations in the Riga municipality company "Rīgas satiksme" and other companies subordinated to Riga City Council, according to the minister's adviser adviser Kārlis Miksons.

LSM's Latvian language service reported that the minister wants to know if criminal charges will be forthcoming and if so, when - which could be interpreted as a thinly disguised hurry-up to the police.

"I would like to emphasize that, in my opinion, there is no need to wait for a special application to allow the State Police to initiate an inspection of the state's interests," Ģirģens was quoted as saying.

Rīgas satiksme is currently mired in multiple scandals involving alleged abuse of position, rigged tenders and much more, as previously reported by LSM numerous times.
