Man fined for hammering now-demolished monument in Rīga

Take note – story published 1 year ago

The State Police have imposed a €100 administrative penalty on a man who in February tried to damage the now-toppled Soviet monument with a small hammer, police told LETA September 1.

Initially, the police began criminal proceedings regarding the case, but later the criminal proceedings were terminated and, instead, the police began an administrative infringement process for petty hooliganism.

The law on petty hooliganism provides for a fine of between €70 and €500. The penalty has not yet entered into force and can be appealed.
