MP Ādamsons banned from performing Saeima duties

The Prosecutor's Office has banned the Saeima deputy accused of espionage, Jānis Ādamsons, from carrying out duties as a deputy of the Saeima, LETA reported January 12.

Ādamsons was detained by the State Security Service (VDD) in the summer of 2021. After being detained, the court applied custody to the politician. On December 17 last year, the Riga City Vidzeme suburb court extended the custody term but gave an opportunity to pay a €30,000 bail. On January 5, a €30,000 bail was lodged and Ādamsons was released from custody.

The prosecutor has now imposed additional security measures related to the duty of the defendant to announce a change of place of residence, a ban on approaching certain persons, a ban on certain occupations, and a ban of leaving the territory of Latvia without permission.

As regards the prohibition of occupation, a restriction has been imposed on the accused to carry out the duties of the Member of the 13th Saeima.

The 14th Saeima elections will take place this autumn, and it is currently unknown when the prosecutor's office will refer the case to the court.
