Take note – story published 1 year ago

Last week, using two unmanned aerial vehicles or drones, officers recorded 11 drivers who violated road traffic rules on the Jelgava highway in about two hours, the State Police (VP) informed.

The eyes were peering from the skies on Thursday, July 14, from 5:00 p.m. to approximately 7:00 p.m., monitoring a stretch of road on the Jelgava-Rīga highway near the turning to Medemciems. During this time, with the help of two drones, 11 drivers were caught making an illegal left turn maneuver at the intersection. With the help of one drone, four violators were caught, but with the help of the other, seven.

All 11 drivers were stopped by terrestrial and human law enforcement officers and fined 30 euros while having one penalty point added to their licenses. Footage from the drones has been posted online and can be watched above.

Police are reminding the public that periodically unmanned aerial vehicles are being used throughout Latvia to improve road safety and the driving culture of drivers. Drone assistance is mainly used to capture aggressive drivers as well as other traffic violations.
