On May 12, the State Police identified the retransmission of banned Russian television channels in two public places in Tukums municipality, the police reported on May 20.

Two administrative infringement proceedings were initiated, in one case against a legal person and, in the other case, a natural person.

In the context of the infringements of copyright and related rights found, the legal person has been held to administrative responsibility, while checks on natural persons under administrative proceedings continue.

Police reminded that several television channels from Russia include disinformation, which poses a significant threat to national security and public order and these channels are banned under the decisions of the National Electronic Mass Media Council (NEPLP).

Police officers in the service area of  Zemgale are paying increased attention to the retransmission of prohibited audiovisual content and will continue to take preventive control measures, said police.

Under the Protected Service Act, the illegal production, import, distribution, rental, sale, or another disposal of restricted access systems for commercial purposes, as well as the installation, installation, or use of illegal systems for commercial purposes, can result in a fine of EUR 70 to EUR 700 to a natural person and EUR 350 to EUR 1400 to a legal person.
