Police seize booze, cigarettes, guns and ammo in Kuldīga raids

State Police said October 13 a series of raids in Kuldīga had resulted in the seizure of guns, ammunition, contraband cogarettes and alcohol.  

Officials of the Criminal Police Division of the Kuldīga District of the State Police conducted four sanctioned searches, during which they found 200 liters of alcohol of illegal origin and 27,700 cigarettes without excise stamps of the Republic of Latvia. In another criminal proceeding, 25 different unregistered weapons, 20 different weapons partys, various calibers of ammunition and 10 grenades were seized.

As part of the criminal proceedings concerning the alcohol and tobacco, a man was detained and sentenced to a non-custodial measure. The detainee has not been previously convicted of similar crimes.

An administrative inspection at a farmstead in Kuldīga region, found the weapons and ammunition which have been handed over for the necessary expert examinations. The person in question has not previously been in the sight of the police for committing similar crimes.

Police said that crimes can be reported by phoning 110, as well as by calling the State Police crime reporting line on 67075444 and leaving a message.
