Criminal prosecution for leaking classified information has allegedly been initiated against the 'singing policeman' Nikolajs Puzikovs, newspaper Latvijas Avīze reported on October 27.

The agency LETA already reported that the Internal Security Bureau (IDB) has sent a criminal case to the prosecutor's office for the initiation of a criminal prosecution against a Rīga region state Police Official for illegally disclosing classified information.

"In the course of the pre-trial investigation, evidence was obtained that the State Police official, using the information systems intended for the performance of official duties, obtained information about a person known to him being wanted in a criminal proceeding in the records of the State Police and disclosed the obtained information to a private person. As a result of the disclosure of information, it was difficult to obtain evidence to achieve the goals of the criminal process," the IDB said.

The newspaper Latvijas Avīze reports that the suspect in the case is Ogre precinct Inspector Puzikovs. According to Latvijas Avīze, a rap musician had suspected that he might have been announced in the search by the police, so he turned to Puzikovs for help, who, in order to help the rapper, using the databases available to the police, revealed that it was true.

Latvijas Avīze reports the rapper has been accused of dealing with Covid-19's false certificate business – offering to obtain certificates without vaccination for €750 a piece. The musician denies his guilt.

Puzikovs said he could not disclose information on the case, while expressing his position that he had not committed any criminal offenses.
