Eight people died in a blaze in an illegal hostel in Rīga on Wednesday morning and six were hospitalized. As reported earlier by LSM, the illegal business had been frequently visited by police on various disturbances, and fire safety checks in the establishment had not been carried out.
State Police are continuing to raid other illegal accommodations and investigating the cause of the fire.
Agency LETA reported that another person had been found dead on the premises the day before the fire, possible cause of death being substance overdose.
