VID stops alcohol production from disinfectant in Latvia

In June, the Tax and Customs Police Board of the State Revenue Service (VID) opened criminal proceedings against a group of persons engaged in the illicit manufacture, storage, transfer and possible sale of alcoholic beverages, made  out of disinfectants, VID said on June 26.

As part of the criminal proceedings, the VID Tax and Customs Police carried out searches in Riga and Liepaja municipalities.

675 litres of liquid with an alcohol-specific scent (marked “Dezyradus”), empty containers with an alcohol-specific scent (trademark “Dezyradus”), 1979 empty glass bottles, labeled “Smirnoff”, “Triple Distilled Vodka”, “Tax free zone”, “Cruist Line” un “NCL Norwegian”,', various types of corks, cardboard boxes, EUR 2,420 in cash, as well as other objects relevant to criminal proceedings will be analysed in the course of pre-trial investigations.

Criminal proceedings have been initiated regarding alleged illegal activities within the group of persons following a prior agreement, by carrying out the production, storage and transfer of illegal alcoholic beverages to a large extent.

No more information is provided in the interests of the investigation.

In accordance with Section 19 of the Criminal Procedure Law, no person shall be deemed guilty until criminal offence is determined in accordance with the procedures specified in the Criminal Procedure Law.
