The total amount of the contract is EUR 6 287 450, the Border Guard said.
The acquisition of the patrol vessel will allow the development and strengthening of the State Border Guard's capacity to monitor maritime borders, improving detection, control, and response capabilities at the external borders of the European Union. This will contribute to faster and more effective action to address existing and potential security threats and provocations, according to the Border Guard.
The vessels currently at the disposal of the State Border Guard were built more than 40 years ago. The changing geopolitical situation in the region and the increasing security risks make it necessary to improve the capacity of the State Border Guard to react promptly to threats, the Border Guard said.
The total cost of the project is €6 290 000, including €4 717 500 from the European Union's Instrument for Financial Support for Border Management and Visa Policy 2021-2027, and €1 572 000 from the state budget.
The project is planned to be implemented by April 30 2025.
The project is implemented under the Financial Instrument for Border Management and Visa Policy 2021-2027, for which the Ministry of the Interior is the managing authority in Latvia.
