Armed Forces to get Latvian-made tactical vehicles

The Ministry of Defense will purchase light tactical vehicles "VR FOX" manufactured by the Latvian company "VR Cars", which have been developed specifically for the needs of the National Armed Forces (NBS) and meet their design requirements, the government decided on Tuesday, November 26.

The Ministry initially plans to purchase one batch of "more than 30" VR FOX vehicles.

In 2020, the company applied for a grant competition to support the development of military or dual-use products. The aim of the competition was to develop a new prototype tactical vehicle in line with the requirements of the NBS.

In autumn 2022, the company's prototype military vehicle "VR FOX" was presented, which, in consultation with the NBS and taking into account the geographical conditions of Latvia, was developed specifically for the tasks and needs of the NBS.

Minister of Defense Andris Sprūds (Progressives) said: "VR Cars has received a grant, the NBS has advised the company and tested the prototype vehicle, and as a result it has been deemed suitable for the needs of the Latvian army."

With the conclusion of the contract, full-scale production of VR FOX military off-road vehicles will start in Latvia, contributing to both supply chain security and the development of the Latvian defense industry by involving local companies in the production of spare parts.
