Latvian National Armed Forces invite public to become reservists

The National Armed Forces (NBS) are inviting citizens of Latvia to contribute to the strengthening of Latvia's security by choosing a suitable type of military training and service. One of the ways to get involved in national defense is to take reservist military training.

The next basic military training course for reservists in 2025 will be organized in both the winter and summer periods. The winter course will run for three weeks from February 8 to March 1, and individuals can apply for it until November 29, 2024 by filling out an application form online on the unified recruitment platform klustikaravirs.lv.

The basic military training course for reservists is intended for citizens of Latvia aged between 18 and 60, without military training, to voluntarily learn the basic military training prescribed for service in the reserve. Those citizens of Latvia who have taken the soldier's oath and successfully completed the reservists' basic military training course will receive a reserve soldier's certificate, a mobilization order and will be enrolled in the reserve of the armed forces as a reserve soldier.

In the reservist basic military training course, the reservist acquires basic military skills including weapons training, combat marksmanship, communications training, regulations, field combat skills, topography, orientation and medicine. Collective field combat skills will also be taught.

During the training period, reservists will be provided with living space in barracks or in a tent, as well as with uniforms, necessary equipment and inventory. Reservists will be paid compensation of 41.75 euros per day for each day of military training. Reservists will also be provided with meals or will receive a soldier's allowance, which is 14 euros per day.

The basic military training course for reservists will be held in Alūksne. During the course, holidays will be planned on February 15, 16 and 23.

Citizens of Latvia (men and women) without military training, aged between 18 and 60 , who have at least basic education and speak the national language at an intermediate level (B1), can apply for the training course. Reservists will be accepted for military training if they meet the health conditions specified for service in the reserve, which will be checked by a medical commission.
