54 people turned back on Latvia-Belarus border Sunday

On Sunday, December 26, the border guard prevented 54 people from crossing the Latvian-Belarusian border.

Altogether, over the Christmas holidays, 282 people were turned back on the border.

Since the announcement of the state of emergency on the Latvia-Belarus border August 10, the Border Guard has prevented 3,763 persons from crossing the border.

One person was detained having crossed the border illegally on Sunday. The border guard did not deny entry to this person citing humanitarian reasons.

446 persons have been detained for illegally crossing the border this year, 295 of which came in the timeframe from August 6 to 10, and 94 of which came after the announcement of the state of emergency.
