Take note – story published 1 year ago

During the afternoon of Friday, February 24, the aircraft of allied countries will fly over Rīga, the Latvian Air Force said on Facebook.

Residents of Rīga are asked not to worry about it and to be understanding.

When an aircraft moves to supersonic speed, an explosion-like noise occurs.

National Armed Forces said that military aircraft flights in Latvian airspace take place at the height and speed specified in regulatory enactments. Consequently, the noise generated is temporary and does not harm people or property.

Both last year and in previous years, the noise generated by NATO planes, moving to supersonic speed, had alarmed people. For example, such noises have been heard by residents of Kurzeme when a training flight has occurred above the Baltic Sea.
