Take note – story published 2 years ago

On Sunday August 8, by noon, 35 third-country nationals were detained at the Latvian border who tried to enter the country illegally, the LETA agency reported, citing the State Border Guard.

It was already reported that the day before, 38 illegal immigrants were captured, and since Wednesday, significantly more people have been caught than during the rest of the year.

All those detained have been processed in accordance with the procedures specified in the Immigration Law and placed in accommodation centers for detained foreigners.

It has already been reported that, assessing the situation in Lithuania, as well as taking into account the growing risks on the Latvian-Belarusian state border, enhanced border surveillance had been introduced and the resources of the State Border Guard and the army have been mobilized. Support is also provided by four experts from the European Border and Coast Guard Agency, Frontex.

Latvia plans to accelerate the construction of Latvian-Belarusian border infrastructure and send additional army forces to enhance security.
