"The purpose of the overflight is to demonstrate the capabilities and determination of the US Armed Forces to guarantee the security and defense of NATO Allies in the Baltic region," according to a release from the Latvian National Armed Forces (NBS) – though it might also increase interest in Tom Cruise's latest Top Gun movie.
On June 16, the aircraft will first fly over the shores of the Gulf of Tallinn, Estonia, then fly over the Vanšu Bridge and Rīga Castle in Latvia, and the flight route will end by flying over the Cathedral Square in Vilnius, Lithuania.
The potentially spectacular overflight should be visible from 15:45 to 16:15, weather permitting.
The National Armed Forces invite people in the Latvian capital to watch, photograph and film the US military aviation flight over Riga and publish it on social networks, tagging the Latvian Army's social media account @Latvijas_armija.
