Marking the year since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the “Free Ukraine in Europe” (Brīva Ukraina Eiropā) initiative has collected a bulk shipment worth €100,000. A shipment to Lviv will start its way from Rumbula Industrial Park to Lviv this week, Latvian Radio reported on March 2.

The “Free Ukraine in Europe” support initiative is a movement that regularly supports Ukrainians with various donations since 2014, in cooperation with the Lviv Medical Corps. Mostly, it is helping Ukrainian army volunteers. Currently, the strategic partner of the initiative is also the “Labdarības lapa” association, which is involved in collecting donations.

The movement is mostly composed of people with previous experience in the National Guard, who then provide contacts with Ukrainian army volunteer units. This, in turn, makes it possible to understand what is needed, to organize donations, and then to transfer, without mediation, essential goods and equipment.

Since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the movement has sent more than 30 cargos of aid. The donations mainly consist of a variety of army equipment, cars, thermal underwear, medical goods and power generators. All are first necessity goods requested by the Ukrainian army.

“This donation is no different – it's just large. We are grateful and happy to have succeeded this year. Last year, we have sent about 30 different cargoes – smaller but regular – to Ukraine. And we differ from other charities precisely with the fact that we are helping the Ukrainian army. We believe that the Ukrainian army is the one that can liberate Ukraine from the invaders, and provide peace in Ukraine. And, of course, the victory of the Ukrainian army will also mean a victory for Latvia and a lower level of threat to Latvia,” said one of the supporters of the initiative, Kārlis Krastiņš.

This time, the consignment contains goods of first necessity worth more than €100,000. Two high-capacity power transformers, a large number of lower-capacity power generators, medical products, thermal visual equipment, optical cameras, two light-duty cars, tools, and many other goods will be sent to Ukraine.

The shipment will travel to Lviv and then be delivered to the army at the hot points of the front.
