The extension was proposed by the Minister for the Interior, Marija Golubeva (Development/For!), given that the situation at the border has still not stabilized.
The state of emergency on the border with Belarus has been extended until February 10, and it is planned to continue the measures to prevent illegal border crossings that have been implemented so far.
Previously, the government announced an emergency on the Belarus border from August 11 to November 10 in four administrative areas: Ludza municipality, Krāslava municipality, Augšdaugava municipality and Daugavpils city.
A decision regarding the announcement of an emergency was taken taking into account the number of cases of illegal crossing of the border of Latvia-Belarus.
