In particular, US support of $3 million (about €2.4 million) will be used to buy three RQ-20A Puma aircraft systems from the AeroVironment company.
The aircraft will be bought under the US' Foreign Military Financing program and will improve Latvia's surveillance and intelligence capabilities, the Defense Ministry said.
The ministry said that the US have supported Latvia for more than 20 years now, providing the country's armed forces with such equipment as means of communications, night visibility equipment, as well as transport.
On April 3, following a meeting between the Baltic presidents and US president Donald Trump, the US government said it plans to provide nearly $100 million for procurement of large-caliber ammunition and over $70 million in training and equipping programs to the Baltics to build the capacity of the national military or national-level security forces of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.
