He said that a memorandum of understanding and the allocation was Luxembourg's voluntary contribution to support to Latvia as a host nation for NATO's enhanced presence in the region.
"The move will certainly strengthen cooperation between Latvia and Luxembourg under the agreement reached in February this year. Of course, I am glad that we will be receiving support under this cooperation because the money will be used for development of barracks in the Adazi military base," the minister said.
NATO troops deployed to Latvia are staying at the Adazi base, which is the country's main military facility and has adjacent training and firing ranges.
As reported, on November 13 Bergmanis made a working visit to Luxembourg where he met with Defense Minister Etienne Schneider and Mars Di Bartolomeo, the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, who visited Latvia in June this year.
The defense ministers of both countries signed a memorandum of understanding about Luxembourg's voluntary contribution to support to Latvia as a host nation for NATO's enhanced presence in the region.
