Mass paratroop drop incoming at Ādaži

May 13 will see the continuation of the long-planned planned international military training exercise “Swift Response 22” at the Ādaži base near Rīga with a mass parachute drop from a C-17 aircraft that will have flown all the way from Italy.

The landing and subsequent tactical operations of around 450 troops at the Ādaži training ranges will be carried out by soldiers from the US Army's 82nd Airborne Division and 173rd Airborne Brigade.

"This overflight with the landing of a significant number of soldiers at the Ādaži military area will demonstrate a high level of coordination and operational integration between the US landing units, and Latvian and other allied armed forces in the implementation of joint operations," sai advance notice from the Latvian National Armed Forces.

During the Swift Response 22 exercise, both in Latvia and in other European countries, the US Armed Forces will train and develop the ability to redeploy large landing units and provide support to Allied defense and security operations in a very short time.

Locals are advised not to be worried by the sights and sounds of planes flying overhead and paratroopers descending. Similar exercises have taken place in previous years, as reported by LSM at the time.
