Take note – story published 3 years ago

Saeima approved a new Law on December 3 which provides that national defense would be made a mandatory subject at schools starting September 2024.

It is specified that only soldiers of the professional service, national guards or reserve soldiers will be entitled to teach the national defense subject. The subject will include state history, principles of national protection, leadership, physical preparedness, and military preparedness.

The subject will be acquired during grades 10 and 11 in general education schools and years 2 and 3 in vocational schools.

Currently, defense training is offered as an optional subject and it will remain that way until 31 August 2024. As of September 2024, it will be mandatory.
