NATO minesweepers stopping off in Liepāja

From May 20 to 23, ships of the NATO Standing NATO Mine Counter Mine Action Group (SNMCMG1) will arrive in the port of Liepāja.

The group will consist of Latvian Naval Headquarters and Supply Vessel A - 53 “Virsaitis”, Dutch Naval Vessel Schiedam, the Belgian naval vessel Primula, the Norwegian naval vessel Hinnoy and the German naval vessel Bad Bevesen.

The ships are calling in for resupply. It is not planned to open ships for public visits during the visit.

SNMCMG1 is one of NATO's four permanent naval groups, which provide the Alliance with a permanent naval operational capability, ready to conduct missions in peacetime and crisis.

SNMCMG1 and SNMCMG2 are multinational units established to carry out demining operations.
