This year, 80 kilometers of the fence will be built. State JSC 'State Real Estate' (VNĪ) is responsible for the construction work.
Half of the entire length of the border is currently covered by a temporary fence which will be incorporated within the permanent fence. The works are scheduled to be completed when frost falls.
Also, last week, the Ministry of Interior received official approval from the European Commission (EC) in June for granting €63 million for Latvian–Belarusian border security strengthening measures, including the automation of the border monitoring.
