Sārts: Crimea bridge hit by both symbolic and practical blow

Take note – story published 1 year and 11 months ago

The bombing of the Crimea Bridge is a blow both symbolically and practically, said Jānis Sārts, director of NATO's  Strategic Communications Center of Excellence, LETA reported October 8.

He said the explosion on the Crimea Bridge was certainly not an accident, it was a targeted operation.

Speaking of symbolism, Sārts pointed out that the “return” of Crimea was one of the symbols of Russian President Vladimir Putin's power, and that the bridge symbolized this “return”.

Thus, by blowing up this bridge, a moral blow is provided to the Russian elite and the society that lives on the basis of this symbolism.

Sārts also noted that Russia's supply system, which supplies a group of troops in the south, relies on two railway lines. By destroying one of the supply lines, a railway line passing across the Crimean bridge, the supply of troops will be difficult.

Sārts said that while the Russian government will not be able to hide the explosion, government representatives will try to minimize the impact caused by this explosion in the public space.
