In the last four days, the Latvian National Guard (Zemessardze) has received 440 applications to join, the commander of the National Guard, Brigadier General Egils Leščinskis, said in an interview on the LTV's "Rīta Panorāma" news show March 3.

He confirmed that it had been said that since the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, the interest of the population in the National Guard in Latvia had surged.

"We have had countless phone calls, applications by e-mail, contact information left," Leščinskis said.

Latvian citizens aged 18 to 55 are eligible to join the National Guard. However, changes are currently being made to increase the age of enrollment.

"We have found that people over the age of 55 also apply very intensively. In addition, these people are in good health, in good physical shape,” said Leščinskis.

You can apply to the National Guard by phone on 1811 or by writing an e-mail to [email protected].
