RTU is the only Latvian university to have achieved such a high position in this ranking, which marks the strongest universities in the region on the European map.
In total, the QS World University Rankings: Europe 2025 includes 684 European universities, with the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich) in first place, Imperial College London in second place and the University of Oxford in third place.
Among the Baltic universities, the University of Tartu is the highest ranked (140th), followed by Vilnius University (178th), Tallinn University of Technology (254th) and Kaunas University of Technology (256th). Vilnius Gediminas University of Technology – 316th, Mikola Romeris University – 348th, Tallinn University – 393rd and Klaipėda University – 445th.
In Latvia, after RTU, the University of Latvia (267th place), Riga Stradiņš University (377th place), Latvian University of Life Sciences and Technologies (455th place) and Daugavpils University (521st-530th place), Institute of Transport and Communications (531st-540th place) and Ventspils University College (601st+ place) are ranked.
RTU’s contribution to attracting exchange students from abroad is ranked highest. Latvia scored 100% in this criterion and is ranked 3rd among the best universities in Europe. RTU also scores highly on the criterion of diversity of international students, ranking 93rd in Europe. RTU’s student activity through international mobility is ranked 107th.
RTU’s reputation among employers has also been recognised, ranking 130th in this criterion, while RTU graduates’ earnings after graduation are ranked 138th among European universities in the ranking.
Now entering its second year, the QS World University Rankings: Europe is a broad ranking of universities, based on twelve criteria, including academic reputation, student participation, sustainability, engagement in international research, citation rate and scientific publications.
