Last autumn, on the initiative of the Latvian State Radio and Television Center, a memorandum of cooperation and understanding was prepared and signed by various state administration institutions, scientific institutions, and private companies, as well as information technology (IT) industry leaders, to promote joint action and cooperation in the development and implementation of quantum technologies in Latvia.
The 11 partners who signed the memorandum will now be joined by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Institute of Electronics and Computer Science.
LVRTC is currently implementing a national-level quantum infrastructure systems and network project with three other partners. "We see our role as creating a critical national-level infrastructure for the transmission of quantum data over extreme distances," said Ozols.
Meanwhile, Leo Trukšāns, LVRTC's lead quantum encryption engineer, explained that quantum technologies in communications are being developed in the security field, trying to use quantum mechanics to build more secure communication channels.
