In September 2022, the government approved amendments to the rules governing changes in evaluation approaches at both primary and general secondary education stages. The approved rules provide for four types of assessment: formative, diagnostic, monitoring, and summative.
Čakša, conducting talks with schools and teachers, concluded that many are not ready for change. The deadline for their introduction has therefore been extended by one year.
Čakša said that the reform would not be implemented until it was ready.
"Nothing will change in the evaluation system this year. It will be the way it is now. [..] We are often told fact that we are going ahead with [reforms] unprepared, this is the moment when we are clearly showing that we will not implement it unprepared. We will prepare and then implement it," Čakša explained.
Schools that wish to use the principles of the new evaluation procedure and are prepared for it will be allowed to do so on a voluntary basis, explaining changes to pupils and their parents.
