The issue is said to have occurred with the US-based cybersecurity company Crowdstrike and is not related to a cyber attack but a system update, as confirmed by Crowdstrike itself and the French cybersecurity agency ANSSI.
The Latvian information technology security incident response authority CERT.LV also confirmed that the disruption is most likely related to updates published to the systems used by the cybersecurity company CrowdStrike.
"CrowdStrike software is not widely used in Latvia. CERT.LV continues to monitor developments in the world and in Latvia," CERT said in a statement to the media.
Latvian Radio contacted representatives of the Civil Aviation Agency and Riga International Airport, who confirmed that at least in these institutions and related structures there are currently no disruptions in the information technology systems.
Riga Airport is currently operating as usual, but due to global IT disruptions, changes in the flight schedule, delays and cancellations are possible.
Riga Airport would like to invite passengers to keep up-to-date with the latest information and contact their airlines in case of flight changes.
