Air quality measuring devices shall be provided in all general and special education institutions established by the State and local governments, as well as in vocational education institutions. In total, around 14,000 sensors have been installed in schools, along with around 1,000 devices in municipal social care centers, with €4.3 million from the national budget. Air quality meters were installed by Moduls Engineering.
The aim of sensors is not only to improve the well-being of pupils and educators in the classroom but also to reduce the potential risk of spreading infections.
Sensor data on air quality in classrooms is publicly available on the co2.mesh.lv portal as of June 1.
In the event of unsatisfactory air quality, the founder of the educational establishment must take measures to improve air quality, including the construction of ventilation systems, in order to ensure compliance with air quality requirements. From 2024, compliance with air quality requirements is one of the indicators for assessing the “Infrastructure and Resources” criterion in school accreditation.
