The mandatory graduation exams are exams in the Latvian language, mathematics and a foreign language (English, Russian, German or French). The exam score is expressed as a percentage of the correct answers against the maximum number of points that can be earned.
The average score in the mathematics was the lowest at 34.9%, or 1.3% less than last year.
In the Latvian language exam, the average score was 50.9%, down 0.4% compared to last year. Average scores fell year-on-year also for the English and German language exams to 59.7% and 60.9% respectively while the school students' French and Russian skills have improved.
The average score of the Russian language exam was 68.6%, up 1.6% points and, in case of French, it was 73.3%, growing 2.7% points from last year, but it has to be said that only 33 students in Latvia took the centralized graduation exam in French.
The average score in history moved down 0.4% points to 41.5% this year while the results of the exams in physics, chemistry and biology improved slightly to 49.9% (+0.3%), 63.1% (+1.6%) and 63.7% (+0.4%) respectively.
Today the National Center for Education issued general secondary education certificates to 18,278 young people who graduated high school this year.
The mandatory graduation exams in the Latvian language and mathematics this year were taken by over 13,300 high school students, and nearly 12,000 took the foreign language exam in English, about 2,300 in Russian, 86 in German and 33 in French.
