The youngest pupils in grades 1 and 2 will return to learning on-site at school next week, Latvian government decided February 8.

Thus, Latvia is gradually returning to on-site learning  process, Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš said at a press conference.

Learning process will involve a lot of safety measures, including wearing face masks.

State exams for year 9 will be replaced by monitoring tests, whereas year 12 pupils are planned to receive individual face-to-face tutorials.

Currently, all pupils are studying remotely. Education Minister Ilga Šuplinska said Tuesday that it is important for the smaller pupils to study face-to-face.

Government is still to take a formal decision Thursday.
