Starting from September, the minimum monthly wage for teachers in general education schools will be raised to EUR 830, and for preschool teachers - to EUR 872, the LETA newswire reported July 6.

The Cabinet of Ministers on Tuesday supported a plan that wages of teachers in general education schools will be increased by 5.1 percent - from EUR 790 to EUR 830, and for preschool teachers by 10.4 percent - from EUR 790 to EUR 872.

Minimum monthly wages in other education institutions will also increase.

The Education and Science Ministry said that this is the first step to gradually reduce inequality among teachers working in preschools and in other educational institutions.

The ministry also said that in the 2021/2022 school year, 30 municipal schools will see changes - 19 secondary schools will be transformed into elementary schools or merged with other secondary schools, while four elementary schools and one primary school will be shutdown.
